An auto insurance policy is mandatory for all drivers in Ontario. You must have at least minimum coverage, but there are ways to keep that cost down. First, always comparison shop. Insurance companies are competing against each other for your business. If you do not shop around, you risk being stuck with a higher policy rate. Always ask what is and isn't covered. You do not want to be stuck with out-of-pocket expenses because you did not get clarification from your broker on your insurance coverage. Always pay your premiums. Canceled insurance through non-payment will make other companies look upon you negatively and as a risk. Be truthful about your driving history. Things you "forget" to mention may come back to haunt you with a price increase.
